This article examines the connection, personal and intellectual, between David Hume Edmund Burke. Scholars have often compared two thinkers, mainly in an unsystematic selective way. Burke’s early biographers regarded them as opposite figures on account of Hume’s religious philosophical scepticism devout Christian faith. By contrast, modern scholars stress their intellectual kinship. More specifically, they repeatedly attempted to place Burke either close together or far apart a liberal-conservative spectrum. shows that historical investigation into relationship is bound challenge complicate such endeavours.
